Atalanta 3-0 Juventus: Scamacca on target to seal semi-final spot

Atalanta held off a spirited Juventus side to reach the last four of the Coppa Italia with a 3-0 win at New Balance Arena.

Atalanta booked their spot in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia with a 3-0 win over Juventus at New Balance Arena.

Gianluca Scamacca's first-half penalty was followed by goals from second-half substitutes Kamaldeen Sulemana and Mario Pasalic as Atalanta will now face Bologna or Lazio in the final four of the competition.

Francisco Conceicao squandered two golden opportunities, first seeing a close-range effort saved by Marco Carnesecchi before hitting the crossbar with a curling strike, and it proved costly when Scamacca scored from the penalty spot soon after in the 27th minute.

Bremer was penalised for a handball following VAR review, and Scamacca made no mistake from 12 yards out as he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Juventus looked to be gaining some momentum after the hour mark when Weston McKennie and Lloyd Kelly both failed to hit the target with good chances, but any hopes of a comeback seemed to disappear when Sulemana finished off a swift counter in the 77th minute.

And just 83 seconds after coming off the bench, Pasalic wrapped up the victory for Atalanta by finding the bottom-left corner through the legs of Kelly as Luciano Spalletti's side were left to rue their misses.

Data Debrief: Scalvini sets the tone

Juventus produced 1.91 expected goals (xG) from 13 shots to Atalanta's 1.59 from eight attempts, with the hosts' clinical nature proving to be the difference in the end.

Giorgio Scalvini's work at the back was also crucial for Atalanta, helping keep the left wing quiet. He won the joint-most duels for his side (six), won possession six times (joint-most), won the most tackles (two), recorded the most touches (56) and completed passes (38).

Atalanta are now unbeaten in their last four competitive matches against the Bianconeri, with their last defeat in this fixture coming in the 2024 Coppa Italia final.

And Juventus have now been eliminated in the quarter-finals of two consecutive Coppa Italia campaigns for the first time since 2009-10 and 2010-11.
